College basketball: Georgetown wins first men’s athletic title

— Georgetown University is winning the first men�s basketball title in school history.

The Hoyas won 68-66 over the No. 2 seed Cincinnati in their NCAA tournament opener Monday night.

It was the Hoyas� first NCAA title since 1992.

The win lifts Georgetown to No. 4 in the nation and a berth in the NCAA tournament.

The Hoyas beat Kansas State in the first round last year, but it was their first NCAA championship.

It is the first time the Hoys have won a conference title since 1984.

The team is coached by John Thompson III, who was a head coach at Georgetown from 1988 to 1992.

Kentucky will face No. 6 seed Michigan State in its first game in the national semifinals.
